Commissioned by the Arditti Quartet Thomas Adés' Piano Quartet portrays all the hallmarks we have come to expect from this quintessential English composer. Adés has a musical language all his own reflected in this dynamic work which is steeped in a rhythmic experimentation of which Stravinsky would have been proud. The coupling, the Schubert Trout Quintet, with the Belceas' this time accompanying the composer shows off Adés formidable pianistic skills and his lyrical bent, which sparkles on numerous occasions throughout the work.
