"After a number of decent attempts in recent years, the Royal Opera House finally hit gold with a new opera - one that will surely stand the test of time, that deepens with every hearing and which gets a worthy first recording here."
Gramophone

"This vivid live recording is taken from performances conducted by the composer at the Royal Opera House in 2007 and it is magnificently sung and played..."
The Daily Telegraph

"...there are moments in all three acts which are by any standards sheerly, heart-stoppingly beautiful; passages in which the music seems to be mined from an unfathomable depth of feeling ..."
The Guardian

"All the orchestral writing, expertly played, comes across powerfully, notably the storm music which roars into life at the start."
The Observer
