"The two longer works are On Wenlock Edge, in its original version for tenor, piano and string quartet, and the Four Mystical Songs. In the Housman cycle Anthony Rolfe Johnson is a sympathetic interpreter, with Graham Johnson and the Duke Quartet, while the baritone Simon Keenlyside is equally ideal in the George Herbert songs. He is also superb in the two Whitman songs, where Johnson's piano playing is marvellously evocative."
