Although Antonio Salieri most certainly does not stand in the front row of the great composers of West European historiography, he had been granted something quite special: to compose his own requiem. Not even Mozart, Brahms or Verdi, whose Requiem compositions count amongst the major works of the genre, could claim that for themselves. Here Lawrence Foster and the Gulbenkian Chorus & Orchestra perform this virtually unknown work as well as choral pieces by Beethoven and Schubert.
