Belgian violinist Arthur Grumiaux has already been the subject of a previous Decca Original Masters set, but such was the amount and quality of the work he produced for the Philips label, a second release in the series was always going to be on the cards. This edition features stylish performances of J.S.Bach's Violin Concertos and Violin Sonatas, a composer whose work Grumiaux particularly excelled. These are not the famous versions Grumiaux recorded with Edo de Waart and Christiane Jaccottet respectively, but they are as equally compelling. Also worthy of note are his versions of the Handel violin sonatas that although stylistically they sound on a different planet to the more period aware performances of today, they do have their own special brand of intensity. All recordings have been newly remastered for this issue.
