The Complete Decca Reordings of Ataúlfo Argenta, 1953-1957 [Box Set]

London Symphony Orchestra; Argenta - L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande; Argenta - Katchen; London Philharmonic Orchestra; Argenta - Paris Conservatory Orchestra; Argenta - Campoli; London Symphony Orchestra; Argenta

Atuálfa Argenta (1913 - 1957) burned a bright trail across a small but vital repertoire until his untimely death (he committed suicide). He recorded for Spanish Columbia, but in a deal struck with Decca, the recordings were marketed outside of Spain under the Decca label. He is most rembered for his glittering performance of Chabrier's orchestral showpiece España (indeed the recording became a Hi-Fi showcase) and this set in Decca's ever illuminating Original Masters series gives another window into the art of this much troubled conductor.
