Decca recorded a major part of Poulenc’s output during the late 1980s and 1990s and at the centre of this were several French artists – notably Pascal Rogé and Chales Dutoit. The name of Pascal Rogé is synonymous with French music and throughout his association with Decca (which lasted some twenty-five years) he recorded much of the French repertory including the Saint-Saëns Piano Concertos (with Charles Dutoit), Ravel solo works and Concertos (also with Dutoit), a selection of Debussy solo works, solo piano music and chamber music by Fauré, and Chausson’s Concert. Three sets of Decca’s Poulenc recordings have been released – covering the solo piano music, music for two pianos and other chamber works and most recently the concertos, orchestral works and sacred choral works. This fourth and final volume restores the highly-acclaimed recordings of the Mélodies to the catalogue in which once more Pascal Rogé is the pianist with several singers including Felicity Lott, Cathérine Dubosc, Gilles Cachemaille and François le Roux.
