Georges Szell is chiefly remembered for his recordings for CBS but he also made some very valuable recordings for the Decca and Philips label. Included here is music by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Handel, Sibelius and Brahms and they are treasures indeed. The recording of Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony is arguably the finest ever committed to disc - Szell was so incensed with the producer John Culshaw that he refused for it to be released and it was only eventually issued after the conductor's death.
