BBC Music Magazine is published by the BBC’s commercial arm, BBC Worldwide and first appeared on the news stands in 1992. Carrying the respected BBC brand, it was not long before its circulation challenged the more established Classical Music Magazines. It’s content strongly reflects and supports BBC Radio 3‘s broadcast content, primarily Classical but like Radio 3 it also includes features on World Music and Jazz. BBC Music Magazine has a more of a music education and concert performance bias than other Classical music magazines though it does include a large number of reviews every month of new and re-issued recordings. BBC Music Magazine’s monthly 5-star ‘Choices’ highlight the strongest of recent or new releases with special mention given to the ‘Disc of the Month’. In 2007 the Magazine launched its annual Awards for the best discs of the year, including categories such as Opera, Choral, Orchestral etc. There is also an overall disc of the year drawn from one of the category winners. Passionato has detailed information relating to available downloads of BBC Music Magazine Choices, Recordings of the Month and Award Winners.
