Instrument - Trumpet

The trumpet’s history stretches back to time immemorial. Its bright, ringing, tone made it perfect to be used in martial settings whether leading armies into battle or for ceremonial duties. During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance eras the trumpet developed into the form known as the natural trumpet. This was similar in style to the modern instrument although it did not have valves, limiting the player’s range of expressive abilities. With the development of valves the trumpet became a virtuoso instrument than had hitherto been possible. Popular trumpet concertos from the Classical period include those by Haydn and Hummel. Trumpets are found in a wide range of genres aside from classical music. They still play an important role in military bands as well as brass band.s In the 20th century the trumpet's popularity in jazz music was second only to that of the saxophone. A mute, which is placed over the bell of the instrument by the trumpeter can also be used to vary the sound.
