Deutsche Grammophon Gelleschaft - or simply DG(G) for short - is one of the blue ribbon classical music labels synonymous with many of the greatest achievements in the history of classical music on record. Founded by recording pioneer Emil Berliner in Hannover 1898, DG survived world wars and economic vicissitudes to emerge as one of the most powerful players in the classical music industry in the latter half of the 20th century. Through the 1960s to the 1980s Herbert von Karajan, DG's leading conductor, and the distinctive DG cartouche became icons of classical music. Karajan recorded three complete Beethoven symphony cycles for DG, the 1963 version is regularly acclaimed as the finest integral cycle available.Today DG maintains its long tradition of high quality recordings through the work of Anne-Sophie Mutter, Claudio Abbado, Anna Netrebko and Gustavo Dudamel amongst numerous others.
