Ondine is a Finnish label and was first set up in the mid-1980s to make and release recordings of the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival. The landmark release of Rautavvara's opera Thomas in 1989 transformed Ondine into an international label. Since then it has seen its profile rapidly rise in the classical music industry attracting artists the calibre of Vladimir Ashkenazy, Paavo Berglund, Truls Mørk and Sakari Oramo.
Ondine has played a significant part in the promotion of contemporary Finnish music (one of the most vibrant in classical music today) and features among its achievements numerous recordings of music by Rautavaara, Lindberg and Kaipainen.
