Mendelssohn/Bruch: Violin Concertos
Riccardo Chailly, Jacobien Roozemond, Henk Rubingh, Maxim Rysanov, Stacey Watton, Maarten Jansen, Janine Jansen, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig
Janine Jansen has gained a worldwide critical following for her fresh look at the pillars of core violin repertoire, and her intense and lyrical approach to the music. After the successful Vivaldi Four Seasons recording (which was a bestseller on iTunes causing one publication to dub Janine ÂQueen of the DownloadÂ), Jansen presents her first major concerto album. The recording, conducted by Riccardo Chailly, has strong historical and musical connections - the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchester was conducted by Mendelssohn for many years and the group premiered his concerto in 1844. The recording also presents a real discovery, the Romance for Viola & Orchestra, with Janine recorded on disc on viola for the first time.
"Her interpretations seem to flow as naturally from the heart of the music as water from a spring." (The Times)
"The purity of her violin sound goes with precise control of dynamic with refined half-tones, and Chailly's conducting of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, with its Mendelssohnian heritage, helps the soloist to build up in these live performances the essential tensions and emotional thrust." (Gramophone)
"Make no mistake. This is a very talented young player, bursting with things she wants to tell us about all three pieces recorded here  and what a delightful filler the Bruch Romance makes!" (BBC Music Magazine)
